Regarding planning, authorities must adhere to the Unitary Development Plan (UDP). This sets out the Council’s proposals for the development and other use of land (including measures for the improvement of the physical environment) for the next 10 years or so. The UDP contains general strategic and local policies, with Chapter 12 listing strategies and proposals for specific areas. The UDP is also the main reference document when submitting an objection to the planning department.
Other relevant references include the “Conservation Areas and Buildings of Townscape Merit” document.
The UDP has now been superceded by the Local Development Framework.
